Fostering approval process

There are 6 steps to the process of becoming an approved foster carer in Bury:

Step 1 - Enquire

If you would like to find out more about the different options available either submit an online enquiry via the "Get a pack"" button or call our dedicated recruitment team on 0800 9555 311 to request an information pack.

Step 2 - Initial home visit

A member of our recruitment team will arrange a convenient time and date for us to come and meet you and your family in your home to discuss fostering and to find out more about your own circumstances and availability. Initial visits take approximately one hour and give you the opportunity to ask any questions you may have about fostering and the different options available.

Step 3 - Pre-approval training

Pre-approval training takes place alternate months, click the "pre approval training" button for a list of the next courses taking place. The "Skills to Foster" pre-approval training course gives you the skills and knowledge to prepare you for becoming a foster carer.

Step 4 - Submit a formal application

Once you have successfully completed pre-approval training you will be invited to formally apply to become a foster carer.

Step 5 - Assessment visits

Weekly assessment visits take place with your allocated social worker over twelve weeks to compile your detailed assessment. Your social worker will give you a copy of your assessment report before it is submitted to panel.

Step 6 - Fostering panel

Once your assessment is completed you will be invited to Fostering Panel where your assessment will be presented to panel for consideration to become an approved Foster Carer for Bury.
